Hello everyone,

Welcome to Album review Sunday. Each Sunday I review the albums that came out over the week and share my thoughts with you.

There were a lot of releases this week that I’m excited to share, but first off a bit of a disclaimer from me:

DISCLAIMER: I do not know that much about these artists as individuals and I do not personally know if they are bad people. I am reviewing JUST their music and what I think of their album. I do not necessarily support them. If you know something about an artist I have reviewed that you feel I should be aware of please feel free to contact me. I listen to all the music on headphones so I would recommend you to do the same. I do not listen to or rate explicit songs as I feel you can find everything needed in clean songs. All reviews are based off my first time listen and what I was thinking at the time, and I do not always know the story behind the song or the lyrics.

THE RATING SYSTEM: The overall album will be rated with a system of 0.5/10 being the worst I’ve ever heard and 10/10 being one of my favourite albums. The individual songs will be rated with a 0.5 stars being the worst and 5 stars being one of my favourites. I take into account beat, lyrics and whether it is something I would personally choose to listen to.

On to the albums!

#8 Changed Man By J.Y. Park RATING: 6/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Changed Man 3 Stars

  2. Changed Man (Inst.) N/A

Overview: It’s better than any other song that I’ve heard this man sing. I don’t really like the lyrics and his vocals aren’t incredible or anything but I would listen to it at times though. 100% better than whatever Groove Back was anyway. It does sound very 80’s though and it is very fun and boppy. And for the first time I 100% followed the storyline in a music video.

#7 ONLY ONE By BANG YEDAM RATING: 6.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Only One 4.5 Stars

  2. hebeolle 3.5 stars

  3. Come To Me 4 Stars

  4. Miss You - Alternative Rock Version 4 Stars

  5. Not At All EXPLICIT

  6. Miss You - Piano Version EXPLICIT

Overview: this is a nice album. Bang Yedam’s voice is really pretty to listen to. The lyrics to the songs I didn’t love but I did really like the songs overall with how they sound. Generally quite chill.

#6 Potential By FANTASY BOYS RATING: 7.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Get it on 4.5 Stars

  2. Potential 4.5 Stars

  3. Get it on ENG ver 4.5 Stars

  4. Potential ENG ver 4.5 Stars

Overview: these are good songs. They both have COMPLETELY different vibes though so it was very surprising when hearing them after each other but I do still like them both. I think if I picked a favourite I would pick “Get it on” but I do like both.

#5 CONTINUUM By VIXX RATING: 7.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Amnesia 4.5 Stars

  2. Chemical 3.5 Stars

  3. LILAC 4 Stars

  4. SAVAGE 4 Stars

  5. If You Come Tonight 3 stars

Overview: I am so happy VIXX have had this comeback. They were one of the first boy groups I listened to when I got into K-pop (along with Block B). These songs are so wonderful to listen to. Their voices are so nice.

#4 THE BOYZ 2ND ALBUM [PHANTASY] Pt.2 Sixth Sense By THE BOYZ RATING: 7.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. WATCH IT 4.5 Stars

  2. Rat In The Trap 4.5 Stars

  3. Honey 3.5 Stars

  4. Bad Luck 4 Stars

  5. CRYING&LAUGHTER 3.5 Stars

  6. Escape 3.5 Stars

Overview: don’t get me wrong I love THE BOYZ music but I just really didn't like the lyrics to this album overall. It was way too romance based really but I did still enjoy this music. If you took away the meaning I’d love these songs. “WATCH IT” is incredibly catchy too.

#3 ROCKYST By ROCKY RATING: 8.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Music is My Life 4 Stars

  2. Lucky Rocky 4.5 Stars

  3. Your Halley 3 Stars

  4. Chameleon 4 Stars

  5. Yes or No 3.5 Stars

  6. Find Me 5 Stars

Overview: this was a really good album. I didn’t like a couple songs based on meaning but overall this was a good album. I haven’t ever really listened to ASTRO much other than a few songs but I know he is a member. I always love seeing solo work from members of groups because sometimes it’s very similar or completely different to what the group does so it’s always interesting to see. My random thoughts aside, these songs are good, very upbeat and I just want to dance to them, especially Lucky Rocky.

#2 ODD-VENTURE By MCND RATING: 8.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Run 3.5 Stars

  2. ODD-VENTURE 4 Stars

  3. Pop Star 4.5 Stars

  4. Treasure 4 Stars

  5. Loosen Up 5 Stars

  6. Cruise 4 Stars

  7. W.A.T.1 - English Version 4 Stars

Overview: So I’ve never really listened to MCND before but these songs are actually pretty good. I hadn’t really expected anything but these were so good. I will listen to this so much. And now I think I might go listen to all their other music, because their voices go so well together. Super high energy songs plus a nice chill one (Treasure) which I like because I can add it to my “chill” playlist for when I read.

#1 [VillainS] By Dreamcatcher RATING: 9.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Intro : This My Fashion 3 Stars

  2. OOTD 5 Stars

  3. Rising 5 Stars

  4. Shatter 4.5 Stars

  5. We Are Young 4.5 Stars

Overview: Okay I love this album so much. Dreamcatcher has always been a great band for me and I love listening to them. Dreamcatcher and (G)I-DLE are 2 of my favourite girl groups.

Honestly Dreamcatcher sounds a lot like a k-pop version of a rock/heavy metal band. I am aware there are actual Korean heavy metal groups, I just mean more specifically within K-pop itself, not Korea as a whole. Hopefully what I’m trying to say made sense.

But moving on I really loved this album. The intro was actually amazing and also the anti-drop in OOTD made me so happy because the whole time I was just like “please be an anti-drop, please be an anti-drop”, because I knew it would just make the song so good and it did so I really love this album.

And I saw this comment by Neha-mw6bz under the music video which explains the music video and song and I was so happy to see it as you know me-can’t follow storylines in music videos that well. Warning it is long but if you want to know the story with the music video and song this is great. If you don’t care feel free to move on:

“This mv might seem like a normal girl crush concept with a mixture of cool and 'i am the best' vibes, but when you dive deeper into it, you'll realise that it's not what you see, it is the reality behind the entertainment industry. Multiple video and photo editing references throughout the mv, fighting scenes which are an act, shooting scenes, expensive cars and motorbikes..all these are a setup by the industry (idol industry let's say) to create an illusion and cover up the reality. The line 'gonna catch your attention then wait till you know' explains how social media manages to create a good image of influencers online till the moment where you get to know their real faces. This is also followed by the concept of narcissism, where people are extremely obsessed with themselves. 'look at my necklace', 'so flawless', 'so gorgeous', 'so priceless', etc tells us how a person can be narcissistic to a point where they do not think about others.

Another interesting theory I've come across on X regarding this mv is that we see the perspective of Shasha who's a video editor in this whole mv(0:03). Shasha tries out a new editing software and comes across ymenehcra, a user, on this software and this user tries to lure Shasha into finding a 'crown'.(read the chats that pop up in between scenes). Shasha resists, but ymenehcra keeps luring her, telling how the crown will give her everything she wants. Shasha finally falls into the trap, she becomes so obsessed with the crown that she starts to edit it into the MV(2:29). She drives following a truck with a crown symbol (2:38), follows the truck into a basement and finds Dreamcatcher. They crown her and she falls to the ground.(3:28). This can mean that Shasha is one of the Crown's victims and the crown is looking for more victims at the end of the mv ("would you like to join the journey?").

( Credits of this theory: ManomayShravage on X)

Kudos to Dreamcatcher for making such a unique mv along with ARG! Truly amazing!”

And that concludes this weeks releases. I apologise if some of you received 2 emails instead on just one. My site glitched on me and posted it wrongly however it's now correct.

I have something very exciting planned for this next week which I can't wait to share with you

Have a day!
