Album Reviews 29th of January 2024

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Album review Sunday. Each Sunday I review the albums that came out over the week and share my thoughts with you. However this week is late because I forgot about posting because a lot happened lol.

This week was pretty average if I'm honest but there were a few specific songs that will easily become absolute favorites over time, but first off a bit of a disclaimer from me:

DISCLAIMER: I do not know that much about these artists as individuals and I do not personally know if they are bad people. I am reviewing JUST their music and what I think of their album. I do not necessarily support them. If you know something about an artist I have reviewed that you feel I should be aware of please feel free to contact me. I listen to all the music on headphones so I would recommend you to do the same. I do not listen to or rate explicit songs as I feel you can find everything needed in clean songs. All reviews are based off my first time listen and what I was thinking at the time, and I do not always know the story behind the song or the lyrics.

THE RATING SYSTEM: The overall album will be rated with a system of 0.5/10 being the worst I’ve ever heard and 10/10 being one of my favourite albums. The individual songs will be rated with a 0.5 stars being the worst and 5 stars being one of my favourites. I take into account beat, lyrics and whether it is something I would personally choose to listen to.

Overview: Overall this wasn’t the worst album I’ve listened to. A few songs were just lacking a little for me if I’m honest, namely WHISTLE and ALL NIGHT. However this album also had some really great songs on, such as GRAB ME and TRAVELER. This was a kind of half/half experience for me because it had songs I’ll love, and songs that I’ll probably just skip when they come on.

Overview: First off the title track, UGLY, is super on brand for them, and almost perfectly matches TROUBLE but in a good way, because I LOVED TROUBLE. But sadly it didn’t continue that way. Some songs such as, SYRUP, and K.O. will definitely grow on me with time, but honestly there was a sound in Chase that really didn’t sound very good and made the song not great for me. Festa was okay but it felt a bit weak to me. Sadly this was an album that started off really strong but didn’t continue that way.

Overview: This was really great for a debut. I think this had some really pretty little songs and I really look forward to what else they bring. They have some really great vocals and I think they are perfect to follow up SEVENTEEN. 

By no means do I think they are the same however, they both have different sounds and I think they are both great on their own, but with them being the first boy group for PLEDIS to debut after SEVENTEEN, naturally comparisons will be made, but I think TWS could definitely live up to SEVENTEEN. 

FAVE SONG: unplugged boy would have to be my favorite with plot twist being a close follow up. They are both such pretty songs and I can’t help but smile when listening.

LEAST FAVE: BFF sadly would have to be my least fave. It was leaning a bit more to that very niche genre in K-pop I’m not a big fan of. I don’t know the name of the genre, it's just a very specific sound/vibe, kinda similar to New Jeans (DISCLAIMER: Not hating on New Jeans, they're great, I just don’t personally enjoy much of their music). But it’s more due to personal reasons rather than it being a bad song.
