BEST FEMALE K-POP ALBUM OF 2023 2nd PLACE

[VillainS] is the 9th mini album from girl group Dreamcatcher, released on the 2nd of November 2023. Filled with nu-metal, and pop punk sounds, OOTD is the title track.

"The title 'OOTD' stands for 'Outfit of the Day', which means today's fashion, and is a song that expresses villain's firm beliefs, confidence and transparent greed. As it acts as a big factor that can reveal one's identity, Dreamcatcher will show their unrivalled colours armed with splendour.

"In addition, Dreamcatcher's signature rock genre is also announced, raising expectations. They are ready to show the group's identity properly through 'OOTD,' which adds the effects of instruments and vocals used in punk rock to express unconventional and destructive confidence."

Personally OOTD really stands out among all the other girl group songs because rock sounds are so rare in K-pop, especially for girl groups making it sound incredibly unique. Not to mention it's so catchy that I have had it in my head since release.

Then we come in with the second track "Rising" which really enforces that rock sound with strong guitar sounds. The chorus is super catchy and it overall feels like a great song that once again sounds very different to most other girl groups.

"Shatter" would probably be my least favourite song on this album overall but it's still not a bad song.

Then we get EDM/House inspired "We Are Young" which is different to the rest of the songs, but not in a bad way, and in fact, I appreciated a switch up-if they all sounded the same they'd be boring.

Overall the whole album is a masterpiece and very enjoyable to listen to and it deserves a spot here in the Best Female K-pop Album of 2023.
