Album Reviews 22nd of October 2023

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Album review Sunday. Each Sunday I review the albums that came out over the week and share my thoughts with you.

There were a lot of releases this week that I’m excited to share, but first off a bit of a disclaimer from me:

DISCLAIMER: I do not know that much about these artists as individuals and I do not personally know if they are bad people. I am reviewing JUST their music and what I think of their album. I do not necessarily support them. If you know something about an artist I have reviewed that you feel I should be aware of please feel free to contact me. I listen to all the music on headphones so I would recommend you to do the same. I do not listen to or rate explicit songs as I feel you can find everything needed in clean songs. All reviews are based off my first time listen and what I was thinking at the time, and I do not always know the story behind the song or the lyrics.

THE RATING SYSTEM: The overall album will be rated with a system of 0.5/10 being the worst I’ve ever heard and 10/10 being one of my favourite albums. The individual songs will be rated with a 0.5 stars being the worst and 5 stars being one of my favourites. I take into account beat, lyrics and whether it is something I would personally choose to listen to.

On to the albums!

#7 STRANGER By SUNMI RATING: 4/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Calm Myself 3.5 stars

  2. STRANGER 2 stars

  3. 덕질 (Call My Name) 3.5 stars

Overall thoughts: Honestly I expected more from SUNMI.

Calm Myself was a bit too short to enjoy to a proper extent.

Call My Name was a nice song and her vocals were nice. There wasn’t a lot of power in it though and it felt a little lacking.

And STRANGER? Like I’m all for tempo switch ups or instrumental changes (I’m an ATEEZ fan obviously I like this) but this executed really poorly in my opinion. It was jarring to listen to and felt like someone had taken 5 very different songs and tried to put them together.

This definitely could have been much better, and I wouldn’t listen to this much.

#6 MACARONI CHEESE EP By YOUNG POSSE RATING: 6/10

TRACK LIST

  1. POSSE UP! 4.5 stars

  2. MACARONI CHEESE 4 stars

  3. OTB 4 stars

  4. Cooing 3.5 stars

Overall thoughts: For a debut album this actually wasn’t the worst. All the songs could have been a bit better but it’s not the worst I’ve heard and like I would listen to these.

MACARONI CHEESE did have bit of a NCT vibe (HOT SAUCE particularly). The lyrics felt a little meaningless (well I mean Mac and Cheese is pretty good though), but hey, it seems to just be a fun little song about pasta.

#5 Profiles of the Future (^): 70% By SUPERKIND RATING: 7.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Beam Me Up (2Dx3D) 4.5 Stars

  2. Speed (2D) 4 Stars

  3. Beam Me Up (3D) 5 Stars

  4. Mugshot (SMMG) 5 Stars

Overall thoughts: I enjoyed this, I think it was actually pretty good. What I can tell from watching the music video and even just the songs though is that this group has such a complex storyline already despite being fairly newer.

Also I love the way they have 5 human members and 2 completely AI members. It makes it really interesting.

Also if anyone happens to be able to explain all these complex k-pop group storyline’s that would be great lol-Stray Kids, ATEEZ, TXT, SUPERKIND, Xdinary Heroes, and P1HARMONY. It would be greatly appreciated.

But storyline’s aside this was a great mini album. I only gave it a 7.5 due to the fact there were only really about 2 different songs.

#4 Late Night By Jay Chang RATING: 8/10

TRACK LIST

  1. I’ll Be There 4.5 Stars

  2. Rockstar 4 Stars

  3. Up To You 4 Stars

  4. Sunlight 4.5 Stars

  5. I’ll Be There ENG Version 4.5 Stars

  6. Rockstar ENG Version 4 Stars

Overall thoughts: These were some really great songs honestly. Most of them were a bit romantic for my taste but when that’s ignored I really did like these songs. They were super fun to listen to and I enjoyed myself.

#3 iDENTIFICATION By E’LAST RATING: 8.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Kiss Me Baby 3 stars

  2. NEVERLAND 5 stars

  3. Together 4.5 Stars

  4. Rain 4.5 stars

  5. Thrill 5 stars

  6. Thrill Japanese Ver. 5 stars

Overall thoughts: This was a great, well-rounded mini album. The songs were great (well actually minus Kiss Me Baby. I didn’t like that song much, but I feel that's obvious, lol) and the voices were also really good.

I’d totally listen to these songs a lot. We had songs that gave rock vibes, and ballad sounding songs, along with just boppy stuff!

Also this choreography is giving ENHYPEN vibes. It might just me me who thinks that though.

#2 RINGO By ITZY RATING: 8.5/10

TRACK LIST

  1. RINGO 5 stars

  2. Sugar-Holic 4 stars

  3. Playlist 4 stars

  4. STYLE 5 stars

  5. Voltage 5 stars

  6. Spice 5 stars

  7. Blah Blah Blah 4.5 Stars

  8. Can’t Tie Me Down 4 stars

  9. Sneakers Japanese ver. 5 stars

  10. Cheshire Japanese Ver. 4 stars

  11. Trust Me Japanese Ver. 4 stars

Overall Thoughts: I love this album. If you were here a little while back you would have seen how much I loved RINGO when it was first released as a single before this album.

Overall this album was amazing. And also super well-rounded with some slower chill songs with some faster bops. I recommend this album highly these songs are great.

I've already shared the RINGO music video in a previous post so I thougth I'd share a live performance because the choreography to the song is pretty cool. Also not to mention they are singing while doing it. I think it's rather impressive.

#1 Howl By CHUU RATING: 9/10

TRACK LIST

  1. Howl 4.5 stars

  2. Underwater 4 stars

  3. My Palace 4.5 stars

  4. Aliens 4.5 stars

  5. Hitchhiker 5 stars

Overall thoughts: Honestly I didn’t expect this to make it to the top this week. I mean CHUU is great but I actually really liked this mini album.

There isn’t a bad song on this. CHUU’s voice makes every song sound SO pretty. I could listen to this album all day.

MY FAVE SONG: Hitchhiker is what i chose since it had the highest rating. It’s so chill and pretty.

MY LEAST FAVE: I’ll pick Underwater. It was a bit romantic and you all know by now I’m not a fan of that.

And that concludes this week! I hope you all enjoy listening to these songs and albums. Please recommend any music to me. Upcoming releases, already released, songs, albums, singles, rock, pop, K-pop, country like literally anything. I simply mostly review K-pop as it’s the genre I’m familiar with and am aware what’s being released.

Have a day!
